HISTORY ON YOUR HEAD…Introduction

We rarely wear hats nowadays.   But look at any outdoor group photograph taken up to about 1940, and every single person is wearing some sort of headgear.

WHERE DID ALL THOSE HATS GO ?

For more than 50 years, Himself and I have been collecting hats; our definition being “ANYTHING THAT ANYONE HAS EVER WORN  ON THEIR HEAD, FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER”

I WISH TO POINT OUT HERE THAT A GREAT DEAL OF RESEARCH HAS GONE INTO THIS SITE, AND THE INFORMATION  IN IT IS SUBJECT TO MY COPYRIGHT.     PLEASE RESPECT THIS.

I want to demonstrate the huge variety of mainly everyday headgear using photographs of items in the collection, and invite comments and information on dates, wearers, production methods, materials and general history relating to hats.

FIRST…a quick look at a little of the variety , before investigating some of the types of hats in detail , and discussing some of the reasons for their demise.

GO TO….A BRIEF LOOK AT  THE COLLECTION.

  1. Would you be interested in selling your Sherborne School boater for a collection of mine? I recall you visited my Vintage Nostalgia site some time ago as well.
